Detailed Program for Izmir (09.00-18.00)
Parallel Meeting for WG1
WG1 is building the evidence base for the entire Action by reviewing the latest scientific and clinical knowledge on extended reality (XR) for spatial neglect and related disorders.
The work is organised into three dedicated review subgroups. Participants are invited to join one of these teams and collaborate across both meeting days.
Assessment Review
Extended reality methods and technologies used for assessing spatial neglect and related conditions.
Treatment Review
Examination of XR approaches for treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery.
Tools Review
Investigation of platforms, devices, applications, and technologies currently employed in the field.
Day 1 · Building the Foundations
On the first day of the meeting (16/11), the subgroups that started in the first meeting of the COST Action (January 2026 in Belgium) will start by communicating their progress. Then, the focus of the first day is about building on that progress. Each subgroup will lock in who is doing what and finalise its review methods, including search strategies and screening criteria, so that data collection and analysis can get properly under way and lead towards publication.
Day 2 · Launching the Living Review Platform
On the second day of the meeting (17/11), we will launch the living review platform on which all WG1 reviews will be carried out. We will start by moving the search strategies and review details agreed on the first day onto the platform, followed by a hands-on tutorial. From late morning or early afternoon, the subgroups will begin their first reviews together on the system.
If you would like to contribute directly to the COST Action’s first publications and be among the first to use the new living review platform, WG1 is a great place to be.
Parallel Meeting for WG2+WG3
WG2 and WG3 is working towards assessment and treatment of spatial neglect and related disorders.
Day 1 · DELPHI Method
On the first day of the meeting (16/11), we will have a training school on the DELPHI method. In this training school, which will be open to all working group members, you will learn the do’s and don’ts of a DELPHI study. The background on DELPHI methods will first be provided in a hybrid session. Then, you will practice the principles in a hands-on session. Additionally, on the first day, we will have a “What we did so far” session to update everyone about what the subgroups have already done up to now.
Day 2 · STSM Proposals
On the second day of the meeting (17/11), we will have several parallel sessions to continue our work on the objectives for Working Groups 2 and 3. In subgroups, our aim will be to design concrete short-term scientific mission proposals that will address the aims of the COST ACTION, draft a report about stakeholder meetings and communicate progress to each other. On the second day, we will have a “Where we go” final session, where the activities of the next months will be planned for each subgroup.
Parallel Meeting for WG4
WG4 is laying the foundations for making data from extended reality (XR) applications comparable, reusable, and interoperable across studies, technologies, and clinical domains. Our goal is to identify the essential information needed to describe XR interventions and outcomes consistently, enabling future data sharing, benchmarking, and large-scale analysis.
The work will be organized around three subgroups:
Minimum Viable Dataset
Defining the core data elements that should be collected across XR applications.
Data Sharing Platforms & Infrastructure
Exploring mechanisms for storing, sharing, and reusing XR datasets.
Standardisation & Interoperability
Investigating pathways towards alignment with existing healthcare and research data standards.
Day 1 · Level of Abstraction
On the first day of the meeting (16/11), we will address a central question: At what level of abstraction is data from different XR systems comparable? Participants will analyse contrasting XR applications, identify the features and variables they generate, and work towards a shared taxonomy spanning patient characteristics, activities, behavioural measures, clinical outcomes, cognitive and physiological metrics, hardware, and usability. The afternoon will focus on testing this framework against real datasets, refining the taxonomy, and identifying key gaps and challenges. By the end of the day, WG4 will have produced a first draft ontology and data description model.
Day 2 · Framework Operationalization
On the second day of the meeting (17/11), we will strengthen and operationalise the framework developed on the first day, reviewing issues such as data derivation, aggregation, normalisation, and contextual requirements. Participants will then split into the three subgroups to develop concrete outputs: a minimum viable dataset specification, recommendations for data-sharing infrastructure, and an initial roadmap towards interoperability. The meeting will conclude with coordination across working groups, assignment of responsibilities, and agreement on the next steps towards community resources and publications.
